need information on swaping 3.8 to 5.0

I just bought a 1983 glx 3.8 convertable the engine is done (no good)
question: what if anything do i have to do to the
transmition (short of the torque converter)
to fit a 5.0L engine

and what year(s) 5.0L will fit into the car
with what modifications

replace it, chances are if it's any good it won't be able to handle the power of the v8.
