the car is in the shop for the first time in about 10 years. waiting for the place to tell me the damage but it looks like the tranny might be shot. which sucks because i need the car and with only 1 week before christmas i'll have to let the shop fix it since i've been down for the last 3 months due to my back (2 blown discs and 1 disc that is collapsing). until now i've done all the work myself, except the paint and the new tops, including 1 tranny rebuild. i hate letting people fix my stuff.
well....

it's official, DOA. It looks like the clutch packs are gone for 3rd and 4th gear. They said that they would find out more when they take it out. $500 to take out, clean, inspect, repair/replace worn/broken parts, and install tranny. $400 for BASIC re-build kit, any other parts will be extra of course. This is why I do things myself, last time it cost $350 for the whole thing and that include $225 for a valve body from a dealer. and to make things worse, 1 week till christmas so the wife (I keep reminding myself how much I do really love her) says that I will have to wait till mid Jan to get it fixed. Merry chrismas honey.

Ouch! I feel your pain. That pretty much just sucks.
