Mustang History: 2007
The biggest news for 2007 is the Shelby GT500, unveiled at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. It is be available in Summer 2006 as a 2007 model as both a coupe and convertible. It is powered by a supercharged 5.4L V8 making at least 475 horsepower. It uses a 6-speed manual transmission and will have 18x9" wheels front and back. The front tires will be 255s and the backs will be 285s.
The GT500's stripes come in a range of four colors (Performance White, Vista Blue, Tungsten and Satin Silver) that, with one exception, can be matched with at least three of the seven available exterior colors. The exception is Vista Blue, which can be paired only with a Performance White exterior.
The Shelby GT is the third modern Shelby Mustang produced through a collaboration of Ford and Shelby Automobiles. In addition to the 2007 Shelby GT500, Ford and Shelby created 500 copies of the Ford Shelby GT-H, which are available only through select Hertz rental centers.
"We have been overwhelmed at the number of people who want to buy a version of the Shelby GT-H," said Carroll Shelby, CEO of Shelby Automobiles, Inc. "The Shelby GT will deliver the power and balanced handling of the Shelby GT-H, but with more performance potential, especially due to the available manual transmission."
Also for 2007, a GT/CS (California Special) will be available with a GT/CS tape stripe, hood scoop, side scoops, and a unique front fascia. Inside, the GT/CS will have heated two-tone black and grey leather and suede seats and the rearview mirror will have an integrated compass. An intake cover will dress up the engine bay. The GT/CS will be available nationwide as either a coupe or convertible.
Exterior colors include Colorado Red (which can be paired with Performance White or Satin Silver stripes), Alloy (Satin Silver or Tungsten), Vista Blue (Performance White or Tungsten), Performance White (available with Vista Blue or Tungsten stripes), Tungsten Grey (Satin Silver), Valencia (Tungsten) and Ebony (Performance White or Tungsten stripes).
