2013 Shelby GT500 Slated To Receive 5.8L Supercharged Engine
Details surrounding the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 have surfaced as part of a new labor agreement between Ford & the UAW, foreshadowing what should lead to a modular rendition of the 351ci / 5.8l Romeo-built power plant, slated to land in the 2013 Shelby GT500. Sources say this engine should easily pump out over 600hp, putting Ford Mustang ahead of the ZL1 in the race to the moon."How so?", some might ask... well, the reported 5.8l V8 is to be supercharged as well.

Motor Trend Tests the 2012 Shelby GTS
The folks over at Motor Trend got their hands on a 2012 Shelby GTS, and they have just published the review on MotorTrend.com. How did the supercharged V6 Shelby fair? Here’s what they said about the GTS’ value compared to the factory options:
For more than 50 large, you’d be right to expect some serious performance. That’s where things start to fall apart. The last GT500 we tested ran from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and finished the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds at 115.8 MPH. The similarly priced GTS needed 4.4 seconds to hit 60 and ran the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 111.0. Of course, the GT500 supplies 75 more horsepower and 70 more lb-ft of torque from its supercharged V-8, so it’s no surprise the GTS couldn’t keep up.”
Certainly a more fair comparison would be to a standard Mustang GT, which makes 53 fewer horsepower and 60 fewer lb-ft of torque than the GTS, for a much lower price. Unfortunately for the GTS, the stock Mustang GT will hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and run the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 110.8 mph, despite being 74 pounds heavier. So, for an extra 10 grand before options, you get a car about as fast as a stock Mustang GT. To be fair, though, the GTS is certainly faster than a stock V-6 Mustang, which needs 5.1 seconds to hit 60 and does the quarter in 13.7 seconds at 102.0 mph despite being 82 pounds lighter.

Shelby GTS Mustang Production Begins
Shelby American Inc., announced the early opening of the new Shelby GTS production line, as well as the completion of the highly acclaimed 45th Anniversary Shelby GT350. Gaining assembly line efficiencies and streamlining parts deliveries have allowed the company to increase production and start building its new Shelby GTS.
“It is exciting to see all the new red, white and blue cars on the lift,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American Inc. “The completion of the last 45th Anniversary GT350 cleared the deck for Shelby American to both start GTS production early and move into the 2012 GT350 and Super Snake builds.”
“Our production team has really hit their stride,” added Gary Davis, vice president of production at Shelby American. “This allowed us to fast track production of 2011 model cars and move on to building 2012 Shelby GT350 and Shelby GTS, as well as the Super Snake.”
Redesigned 2013 Mustang To Be Revealed At LA Auto Show
There's plenty of talk about what to expect for the 2015 Ford Mustang redesign, but it appears that Ford will first unveil a redesigned Mustang in 2013 before we see the next generation pony car from the Blue Oval. Mustangs Daily gives some new details about what to expect from the upcoming model year.
First up, the 2013 Mustang will be getting a fairly significant redesign, with many styling cues from the current Shelby GT500 making their way onto the front of the car including the larger, protruding upper grille and smaller, rounder lower grille. This aligns with the mysterious Mustang test mule that was caught on the streets of Dearborn back in April. As a modern touch, LED lights will be used, most likely for the fog lights in the lower front fascia. Many Mustang fans will also be happy to know that the controversial taillight design first seen on the 2010 Mustang have also gone on the chopping block for 2013, giving way to a lights that run straight across the back of the car rather than angling towards the front.
2015 Ford Mustang previewed by Motor Trend
The closer we get to the debut of the 2015 Mustang, the more likely we are to see rumors and guesses about the car. Motor Trend is the latest to offer up speculation about Ford's next generation pony car:
As Mustang's 50th anniversary rapidly approaches, its maker is under enormous pressure to deliver a worthy update that will satisfy legions of loyal fans and appeal to masses around the globe. Ford finally is taking its iconic Mustang overseas.
Think of it as the flip side of One Ford, the program that brought the European Focus and Fiesta to the U.S. Ford will deploy America's original ponycar in new markets including such right-hand-drive countries as England, Japan, and Australia. For the first time, studios in Australia and Europe are contributing to the design of the new model. And the Mustang will finally get an independent rear suspension.
