While it didn’t manage to capture the win, the Mustang Boss 302R run by Multimatic Motorsports had a great showing at the Grand-Am 200 last month at Daytona Speedway. Drivers Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell placed second, and could have possibly been atop the podium if not for a slow pit stop.

SPEED TV showed a delayed broadcast of the race this past weekend, but in case you missed it we have some great footage of the Multimatic Boss 302R. The team had a video camera rolling inside the cockpit, and was gracious enough to share more than eight minutes of footage of the car lapping Daytona International Speedway.

Grabber Blue 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca

A racing legend and a race-inspired car will team up to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) at the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A spectacular, one-of-a-kind factory-painted Grabber Blue 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca will be sold to the highest bidder with none other than racing great Parnelli Jones providing commentary from the auction stage with Ford’s Mustang team. Jones won the 1970 Trans-Am season opener in a Boss 302 and the Laguna Seca is named after the track where he won that race. The event will be televised live on SPEED channel.

“I am very excited to see that Ford is carrying on the tradition of the Boss Mustang,” said Jones. “Ford had the right ingredients to bring back this legendary car and it’s a great addition to the Mustang lineup.”

Alongside Jones on the auction stage will be Ford’s President of The Americas Mark Fields and Mustang Chief Engineer Dave Pericak.

Motor Trend Names 2011 Mustang GT as One of the Most Impressive Cars of 2010

2011 Ford Mustang and BMW M3

Motor Trend tested more than 200 vehicles in 2010, and needless to say, they were more impressed with some than others. While the magazine’s “Car of the Year” was announced a few months back, they wanted to recognize some of the other cars that made the biggest impression. On their blog Motor Trend writes, “sometimes, a vehicle does something special. It stands out in ways we don’t anticipate. They exceed our expectations. They surprise and delight us with their ability. They stick with us and become topics of discussion over dinner or at the office. They become more than a car. Eventually, they turn into benchmark.” The 2011 Mustang GT was one of those cars.

The comparison test with the BMW M3 was the main source of awe for Ford’s pony car. Despite technically losing to its European counterpart, the 2011 Mustang came away the true winner by matching the Bimmer’s performance despite costing nearly $27,000 less. Motor Trend says about the test:

On the outset, the thought of comparing a Mustang to a M3 elicited confused shock. But then we tested the two, and things became simply bewildering. The Mustang narrowly bested the M3 in every performance metric. It passed the quarter mile mark 0.1 second faster. It stopped from 60 mph two feet shorter. Its average lateral acceleration was 0.01 g higher. Its Figure Eight was lap time 0.2 second faster. It was only around Streets of Willow raceway, where we enlisted pro racer Randy Pobst to eke the last tenth from both contenders, that the M3 carried an advantage — by 0.09 second. And the Mustang’s as-tested price? $40,275. The only thing we couldn’t measure was the ego bruising.

SYNC AppLink for Mustang

Ford will launch SYNC® AppLink next as a factory-installed feature for the 2012 Ford Mustang. AppLink is the free software program that gives SYNC users voice control of apps stored on their smartphone.

Mustang will be the first vehicle that will offer AppLink with the standard SYNC interface, as well as be integrated into the optional Voice-Activated Navigation System, providing the additional convenience of an 8-inch touch screen for control.

“Mustang is an exciting next addition to the AppLink portfolio, giving Ford the ability to offer more of our customers a smarter solution to using apps while in the car,” said Doug VanDagens, director of Ford Connected Services. “We continue to move quickly and migrate smart technologies across our vehicle portfolio that deliver solutions customers are demanding.”
