Boss Mustang to return?

Motor Trend magazine's September issue reports that there will be a Boss Mustang for the 2008 model year, one year before the planned redesign of the Mustang in 2009. While the rumor has not been confirmed by Ford Motor Company, Motor Trend is claiming there will be a Boss Mustang and that will make use of a 5.0 liter engine, producing 390 horsepower.

Many Mustang fans are hopeful the 5.0 liter cammer engine will be used, but it is too early to tell at this point. Additionally, the Boss Mustang is supposed to get the Shelby GT500 suspension system and will also have some interior stripping for the sake of weight reduction.

The original Boss Mustang debuted in 1969 with a 302 cubic inch engine, later to be upgraded to a 429 cubic inch engine in 1970. The Boss was downgraded to a 351ci engine in 1971 before the oil crisis of the 70s.

Be nice if FORD moved on to a larger engine ie. 429 cid to get some heavy duty torque, or add a couple of pistons to this one. The small block 281 is just trying too hard to keep up with the Hemi. You can only stack so much on top of this small block. But what ever they do, we love the looks of this new 2005+ body. so PLEASE don't put too much Italian on it!

Build a true performance car. Put on the minimum safety requirements by law (seat belts, air bags, tire pressure sensors, and end it there!!).
Manual steering, manual transmission, manual windows, manual locks, NO sound deadening, no air conditioning, no cruise control. Buyers can option up for A/C, CD player, and cruise. If they want more options, they obviously don't want a true performance car, they can get the Shelby or GT or whatever. Get rid of the weight, get rid of the extra load on the engine, and all of this would also ensure a low price tag would it not?

Another benefit of my goal weight of 3000 pounds or less, is that with less weight, the 4.6 would move you faster, and also get better gas mileage with the decreased load on the engine.
Pushing 3000 pounds, the only load on the engine would be a small alternator and water pump. I would put on an electric cooling fan to lighten the load on the engine.
I bet you could push the heck out of 30 mpg, which would also please the treehuggers.
30 mpg = environmentalists are happy
300 hp @ 3000 pounds = 1 hp per 10 ibs. Performance enthusiasts very happy.
Low price tag= youth market happy.
